District Heating:

District heating is a system for distributing heat generated in a centralised location for residential and commercial heating requirements such as space heating and water heating. The heat is often obtainedby burning fossil fuels such as oil & gas but increasingly biomass, geothermal heating / heat pumps and central solar heating are also used. District heating plants can provide higher efficiencies and better pollution control than localised boilers.

According to some research, district heating with combined heat and power (CHPDH) is the cheapest method of cutting carbon emissions, and has one of the lowest carbon footprints of all fossil generation plants. CHPDH is being developed in Denmark as a store for renewable energy, particularly wind electric, that exceeds instantaneous grid demand via the use of heat pumps and thermal stores.

In conjunction with our sister company Origen Energy Ltd,Polytherm is one of Ireland's leading district heating specialists. We design and supply comprehensive heating systems to the residential, commercial and industrial sectors and can offer in house specialists including design engineers, CAD technicians and system specialists. The focus of Polytherm Limited is to provide engineered energy solutions including district energy.
